MamaQuilla Origins

It was on a trip to Ecuador in 1986 where the seed that grew into MamaQuilla Textiles was planted. I got more than a little carried away in the markets, seduced by all the beautiful tapestries, ponchos and blankets.  When I came back to Canada at the end of October, I decided to participate in a few Christmas fairs to share the beauty I had discovered. Hmmm, a person could really support a travel habit with this. With that, MamaQuilla Textiles was created.

Subsequent wanderings have taken me to Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, and Mexico. On each journey I seek out both individual artists and groups who work to revive traditional textile forms and create meaningful livelihoods in their communities.
