FEATURED ARTISAN

SUCK ON THAT is a social enterprise founded in Cambodia in 2017, with the initiative to promote the use of bamboo straws as an alternative to plastic.

A plastic straw has a longer lifespan than a human, despite its average 20-minute use. Single-use plastic straws are highly wasteful and unnecessary products that have detrimental impacts on the planet. Plastic is not biodegradable, it simply breaks down into smaller pieces over long periods of time.

Bamboo straws are the most sustainable straw option available: they are reusable, 100% natural, biodegradable and don’t require a high energy process to make. Paper straws require deforestation and metal straws require a huge amount of energy to create and lead to devastated quarried landscapes.

It starts in rural Cambodia, where bamboo is sustainably grown in a rural village south of the capital of Phnom Penh. Suck On That operate in remote areas to provide jobs to less privileged communities in order to stimulate a better quality of life for the villagers. The straws are handcrafted by Khmer villagers, creating employment opportunities for disadvantaged Cambodian communities. We are passionate about supporting Cambodian villagers through fair employment and ensuring a safe working environment.

Bamboo straws are available in a single sleeve and drawstring pouches, made using scrap material from garment factories that would otherwise get incinerated.
